Now in its 14th year, MarineQuest offers the public the opportunity to experience science firsthand with more than 60 exhibits featuring interactive displays, live animals and events for all ages.

Georgia and Florida ending reciprocal license exemption for seniors

FWC passes gopher tortoise permit guidelines

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) Wednesday approved the Gopher Tortoise Permitting Guidelines, the first major step in launching the gopher tortoise management plan approved by the Commission last September. The FWC reclassified the gopher tortoise to a threatened species last year, and the management plan serves as a blueprint to conserve the species.

International event honors contributions of five to the sport of fishing

FWC seeks applications for boating grants

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has announced the anticipated availability of grant funds under the Florida Boating Improvement Program. This program provides funding through competitive grants for boating-access projects and other boating-related activities on Florida's coastal or inland waters. The FWC expects funding for fiscal year 2008-09 to be $6.6 million.

The FWC examines freshwater turtle harvests for future sustainability

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has formed a team to study and make recommendations on rules concerning freshwater turtle harvest.

There are restrictions on the harvest of several freshwater turtle species, but softshell turtles have no restrictions on their harvest, except during the closed season, May through July. Also during this closed season, their eggs may not be taken from the wild. Recent reports of increases in the harvest of these turtles have raised concern among turtle experts, environmentalists and the FWC.
