HONOLULU – The Department of Land and Natural Resources will hold an informal public meeting on Moloka‘i on Thursday, May 8 from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Mitchell Pauole Community Center conference room to hear from community members regarding the use of jet skis (also known as personal watercraft or PWCs) around Moloka‘i.

HILO – The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) has reopened the remote Muliwai Trail on the island of Hawai‘i, after completing trail repair work that included removing fallen trees and excavating landslides that blocked the trail during severe winter storms statewide in mid-December 2007. Trail crews from the Division of Forestry and Wildlife also restored the trail tread in several locations.

The goal of Humpback Whale Awareness Month is to enhance public awareness of Hawai‘i’s official state marine mammal and increase public involvement in ocean stewardship.

HONOLULU -- Numerous government agencies, nonprofit organizations and community groups are collaborating to launch the International Year of the Reef in Hawai‘i on Friday, Jan. 25 at the Hawai‘i State Capitol.

HONOLULU— The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) celebrated the opening of the new “F” dock at Ala Wai Small Boat Harbor with a blessing today. The 650 foot long by 88 foot long state-of-the-art modular dock system was fabricated in Hawai‘i and was installed along with water and electrical utilities, marina power pedestals, gangway, dock boxes and access gate.

LIHU‘E – The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) announces the open season for rainbow trout fishing in the Koke‘e Public Fishing Area (PFA), Kaua‘i, effective today.

A limited open fishing season has been in effect for only the Pu‘u Lua reservoir since September 17, 2007 due to a failure in the water distribution system that supplies the reservoir’s water.

WAIANAE - The Department of Land and Natural Resources’ Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation hosted a blessing ceremony today at the Wai‘anae Small Boat Harbor to reopen recently repaired facilities at the harbor for public use.

The idea for Outdoorsman Exchange came about in an instant, but in a way it was sometime in the making – we just didn’t realize it at the time.

For years my husband, Paul, has wanted to go on an elk hunt. I’ve encouraged him many times. He and his brothers talk how they should all go elk hunting out west with their Dad before age took its toll on him. Pursuit of that dream sounded good but there was always the financial reality check that held my husband back. He couldn’t justify spending money on a guided hunting trip and felt a guided trip was the only way to go for a successful hunt. This voice inside kept telling him - we need to save money for more sensible things like kids braces, college funds, etc. Most everyone can relate to these thoughts, unless you’re an heir to a fortune.
