Kentucky Afield Outdoors: Even Though Snow Still Flies, Fishing Season is Here
Frankfort, Ky – February is the pits. Mother Nature punctuates dreary weather with a pounding cold rain, snow or damaging ice storm. But, it is not necessary to sit around the house and mope about the seemingly endless days of highs in the low 40s with low gray clouds and no sunlight. This bleak time is also the beginning of fishing season.
Kentucky Afield Outdoors: White Bass Runs
Frankfort, Ky. – Place names such as Rankin Bottoms, Bryant’s Camp, Broad Ford, Bacon Creek and Glensboro hold special significance for white bass anglers in Kentucky. These areas lie in the headwaters of Herrington Lake, Nolin River Lake and Taylorsville Lake and produce white bass each spring year after year.
Kentucky 2008 Fishing Forecast and Tips
Welcome to the 2008 Fishing Forecast for Kentucky’s major fisheries. The forecast is based on 2007 fish population surveys, creel surveys, fish stockings, and historical knowledge of the fisheries. This handout is designed to assist anglers in planning their fishing trips and improving their fishing success. Additional fishing information is available by obtaining copies of the 2008 Sport Fishing and Boating Guide available at most sporting goods stores. The Kentucky Trout Waters brochure is contained in the 2008 Fishing and Boating Guide.

The following streams are stocked in early October (plus early April in Swift Camp Creek) and have a catch and release season (no harvest) from October 1 through March 31, except in Swift Camp Creek where the catch and release season is October 1 through May 31. Only artificial baits may be used during the catch and release season. Statewide regulations apply April through September.
Kentucky Afield Outdoors: Stay Warm Without Bulk in Late Winter and Early Spring
Frankfort, Ky. – The advances in the science of keeping warm are miles ahead of where they were just 15 years ago. The development of synthetic base layering and clothing with wicking properties makes going afield in winter and early spring pleasurable compared to the way things used to be in the days of wool and cotton.

Outdoorsman Exchange - Trading Chases
The idea for Outdoorsman Exchange came about in an instant, but in a way it was sometime in the making – we just didn’t realize it at the time.
For years my husband, Paul, has wanted to go on an elk hunt. I’ve encouraged him many times. He and his brothers talk how they should all go elk hunting out west with their Dad before age took its toll on him. Pursuit of that dream sounded good but there was always the financial reality check that held my husband back. He couldn’t justify spending money on a guided hunting trip and felt a guided trip was the only way to go for a successful hunt. This voice inside kept telling him - we need to save money for more sensible things like kids braces, college funds, etc. Most everyone can relate to these thoughts, unless you’re an heir to a fortune.
