LITTLE ROCK – If Arkansas real estate agents like to use the “location, location, location” theme, many Arkansas deer hunters reply with “habitat, habitat, habitat.”

They realize that without suitable habitat, all the wishing in the world for deer won’t bring them to where the hunters can get a shot at them.

COTTER - The seventh annual Great Cotter Trout Festival will celebrate trout fishing with a variety of activities and events on April 18 to 19 at the Big Spring Park in Cotter.

LITTLE ROCK - Recent floods in Arkansas may have some hunters concerned about the impacts to wild turkey populations. However, Arkansas Game and Fish Commission biologists say not to worry – yet. In most of the state, Arkansas’s spring turkey season begins April 12.

LITTLE ROCK – Arkansas hunters can begin planning their vacations now that commissioners from the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission have formally approved the upcoming season dates. In a 4-2 vote, commissioners passed the seasons for modern gun, archery and muzzleloader deer seasons.

The catfish season officially kicks off at all Urban Fishing Program lakes and ponds in the Phoenix and Tucson areas on Friday, March 21 when all lakes will receive deliveries of 15- 20-inch channel catfish. Two large trucks will be used to bring over 7,500 catfish to 19 waters throughout the day. Warming spring temperatures signal the stocking changeover from trout to catfish. Nearly 14,000 pounds of Arkansas farm raised catfish will be delivered and stocked into Urban Fishing Program lakes every two weeks from now through the end of June. Traditionally, as we change fish suppliers from winter trout to spring catfish deliveries, anglers are given the specific day of stocking. For all other catfish stockings, only the stocking week (Mon.-Sat.) is announced.
