Woods Canyon, Willow Springs, Bear Canyon and Knoll lakes along the Mogollon Rim are all worth a refreshing visit to rediscover hungry trout jumping after flying insects while soft mountain breezes push puffball clouds across the sky.

Here is a tip from 4-year-old Shawn Rizzo who caught a 4.78-pound, 20.75-inch trout at Hawley Lake – you don’t have to be big to catch a big fish. This youngster’s fish will be a contender for Arizona’s big fish of the year honors. Now that is catching a big memory.

Arizona spring hunt recommendations and fall waterfowl seasons available for review at open houses

PHOENIX — The proposed spring hunt recommendations for 2009 spring turkey, javelina, buffalo and bear, as well as the recommendations for 2008–09 waterfowl and snipe seasons, will be available for review at the Arizona Game and Fish Department’s regional offices beginning July 28.

Due to an abundance of urgent Mexican wolf issues (e.g. a recent series of unlawful mortalities and possible changes in management guidelines) that require immediate attention, and a shortage of staff and time to work on them, the next Jaguar Conservation Team meeting will not be held until September 25.

New juniors-only sandhill crane season announced

PHOENIX -- The 2008-2009 hunting regulations for dove, band-tailed pigeon and Eurasian collared-doves, as well as the 2008 regulations for sandhill cranes, are now available online at www.azgfd.gov/rules. Printed copies should be in department offices and license dealers after July 25.
